An exciting update from me!

An exciting update from me!

So I have been incredibly flakey with updating Grown Up and Stuff.com over the last few weeks – and I’m not even sorry!  I have two pieces of amazingly good news that explains why I’ve been so rubbish with blog posts!

I got engaged!

You may have seen this update on my Facebook or Twitter feed but yup, I went and did that really ‘grown up and stuff‘ thing and proposed to my girlfriend of five and a half years (to the day) on Christmas Day 2012.

The source of all my nerves and stress recently!

The source of all my nerves and stress recently!

After came back from working away  from home over the summer, and missing my best friend so much, I just knew that I had the greatest girl in the world and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.

So the past few months have been a bit crazy – I even went ring shopping (by myself) and everything!  Luckily, she loves my choice! (phew)

I fully intend on writing a blog post or two about the whole engagement process, because as a guy it is an incredibly intimidating process to go through, and I would love to share the highs and lows and “oh my god what I am I doing?!” moments…

And then to add onto that excitement here is my second piece of awesome news…

I got a new job!

I would probably go as far to say that it is my dream job actually.  It involves working with children’s summer camps around Canada, and helping directors recruit the best staff members for their camps.  I’ve worked at a summer camp for the past 5 summers and I can definitely relate to every aspect of the recruitment process.

It was one of those moments where everything just seemed to line up perfectly between the skills and experience that I have and what this company was looking for.  I feel very fortunate to have basically stumbled upon the job posting after a mutual friend posted it on Facebook, and like I say everything lined up perfectly for me in this role.  I started last Monday and WOW is it fast paced and crazy and overwhelming and everything that I wanted in a job!  Again, I will try and blog about that process too!

One of the biggest perks of this job is that we recruit staff from around the world, and my first port of call is to the United Kingdom!  (my home!!)  I haven’t been back to the UK for two and a half years, and I haven’t seen my family for at least a year and a half so I am ecstatic to be able to mix in a wee bit of pleasure with business!  I fly out next week and although I’ll only be there for 3/4 days – I’m trying to visit as many people as possible!  This is especially well timed with my first piece of big news above, because everyone suddenly wants to see me again!

Going back to see my "wee bit hill n glen"

My excuses…

So there you have my excuses about why I’ve been so lazy and overwhelmed.  I’m excited to be back to blogging – and with a huge amount of recent personal experiences to write about too!  This is gonna be AWESOME!!
